BHC horse show team starts season with consecutive wins

Equine Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association at Truman Fall 2016

Black Hawk College Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association Team members started their season on a high note, winning their first two meets at Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri.

Black Hawk College competes against schools in Zone 7, Region 5 (central and western Illinois, Iowa, Missouri and Kansas). At the Truman State meets, Black Hawk College was the only two-year college, competing against riders from the following four-year schools – Augustana College, Illinois State University, Iowa State University, Truman State University and Washington University (St. Louis).

Black Hawk College was Champion Team at both meets, scoring 33 points the first day and 27 the second day. There were 10 classes each day, and BHC riders won nine of them each day.

Freshman Kinsey Ayres of Powell Butte, Oregon, was High Point Open Rider the first day with her undefeated two 1st Place finishes in Open Horsemanship and Reining. Sophomore Shelby Brenner of Hopkins, Michigan, won this event on the second day.

The team is coached by Donna Irvin, Drew Cotton and Rebekah Irish and is located at the Black Hawk College East Campus near Kewanee, IL.

KJ Buckner, Samantha Grams, Morgan Kromphardt and Abbey Myers (Beginner Division – 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place respectively)
