BHC art student wins second place in Figge invitational

Black Hawk College art student Derek Ward recently won second place in the Figge Art Museum’s College Invitational 2013.

His award-winning acrylic painting, “Fortune Teller,” is part of a series called “The Hate That Drives Us Needs to Stop.” The series explores problems in society.

The Figge exhibit features artwork by students from Ashford University, Augustana College, Black Hawk College, Knox College, Monmouth College, Scott Community College, St. Ambrose University, Western Illinois University and the University of Iowa.

Seven Black Hawk College students have artwork in the exhibit:

  • Emma Harmon, Davenport
  • Shirley Johnson, Silvis
  • Rebecca Jones, Moline
  • Tony McGee, Rock Island
  • Derek Ward, LeClaire
  • Glen Williamson, Moline

The exhibit is on display through Sunday, Feb. 9 at the Figge, 225 W. Second St., Davenport, Iowa.
