BHC artists win awards in Student Art Show

Six Black Hawk College art students recently were honored for their artistic talent in the annual Student Art Show at the Quad-Cities Campus in Moline.

The juried competition garnered 85 entries. Juror Emily Christenson, an award-winning local artist and BHC alumna, selected 33 pieces for the show. Aaron Van Fossen of Bettendorf won first place with “My Inspiration.”

The winners are (front row, left to right):

  • Amber Dale, East Moline – honorable mention – “Mr. Poppins,” black and white film photography
  • Tamlyn Tinker, East Moline – second place – “Perception I,” digital photography
  • Alicia Johnson, Rock Island – third place – “The Evil Candy Factory,” mixed media
  • Brandy Sallee, Milan – honorable mention – “Bird of Paradise,” pastel on paper

  • Nathanael Olson, East Moline – honorable mention – “Grandchildren” CD packaging design, Adobe Photoshop
  • Aaron Van Fossen, Bettendorf – first place – “My Inspiration,” mixed media on paper

The exhibit is on display through Friday, May 11 in the ArtSpace Gallery on the first floor of Building 4 at the Quad-Cities Campus.
