On behalf of the Campus Police Department, I would like to welcome you to our home on the Web. Whether you are a current student, staff member, or are interested in exploring educational or employment opportunities at Black Hawk College, we appreciate your interest in the Campus Police Department.
The Campus Police Department’s primary responsibility is to provide for the safety and protection of our students, staff and visitors. We are the primary law enforcement agency on campus and our officers have full police officer powers of arrest (ILCS 110, Act 805, Sec. 42.1). All of our Officers have received extensive training in administration of justice classes and additionally must complete a number of state-mandated courses.
Our highest priority is to provide for the protection and safety of students, staff and visitors to our campus. To this end, we utilize a variety of innovative ideas to accomplish this objective. Among those is a sophisticated camera security system that monitors and records activities in public areas on our campus. We also have an automated mass notification system that can contact participating students, staff or faculty members via email, cell phone or office phones regarding any on-campus emergency.
As the College’s law enforcement agency, our officers wear distinctive uniforms and patrol in marked vehicles. We expect our officers to be proactive in dealing with on-campus investigations and all of us are a part of the department’s community-based policing program. This program is designed to partner with our community in both crime prevention and investigations. Our officers regularly meet with students and staff to identify needs or concerns. Campus Police officers are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
We also provide specialized training for students in physical assault prevention. This program, known as Rape and Aggression Defense (RAD) is offered year-round. Additionally, the Campus Police offer the A.L.I.C.E. active shooter response training. For further information about RAD, A.L.I.C.E., and course offerings, please contact the Campus Police Department. In addition, information regarding crime prevention tips can be obtained in our offices.
Campus crime statistics associated with the federal government’s student-right-to-know laws can be found on this website in the Annual Security Report. All statistics are reported annually to the federal government and are published for the review of our community.
Black Hawk College is a wonderful place to receive an education. We have a committed and dedicated staff that cares deeply for the safety and protection of our students, faculty and staff. We are committed to providing professional police services to the Black Hawk College community.
