Application Procedures for Degrees & Certificates



Procedures for Applying for Degrees & Certificates
Go to the Enrollment Services Office at the Quad-Cities Campus or at the East Campus and complete an Application for Graduation or access the correct year’s application below. A graduation audit will be completed and a response will be mailed to you. Please contact Enrollment Services at the Quad-Cities campus ( or 309-796-5340) or at the East Campus ( or 309-854-1705) if you have any comments or questions.


You can complete the above Graduation applications by completing the Word document online and sending the attachment to:  (QC) or to  (EC). You can also print the document and send to: Enrollment Services, 6600 34th Avenue, Moline, IL 61265 or Enrollment Services, Black Hawk College - East Campus, 26230 Black Hawk Road, Galva, IL  61434 or just stop by one of the Enrollment Services offices. Monday & Tuesday 7:30 a.m.–6 p.m.
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 7:30 a.m.–5 p.m.

East Campus
Monday – Friday 7:30 a.m.–5 p.m.

Degree and Certificate Issuance
Degrees and Certificates are awarded three times each year. Fall graduates are awarded on December 18th, 2009, spring graduates are awarded on May 20th, 2010 and summer graduates are awarded on July 30th, 2010. All graduates must complete the Graduation Application. Requirements for graduation includes completing the academic requirements and clearing all financial obligations.
Fall Graduates:
If you complete graduation requirements during the Fall Semester, you may participate in the following Spring Commencement ceremonies. Please read the information in this flyer about caps and gowns. The last day to file an Application for Graduation for fall graduation is December 11, 2009.

Spring and Summer Graduates:
Students who will complete graduation requirements during the Spring or Summer terms and want to participate in commencement must apply for graduation by April 1, 2010. Names of students who apply after April 1, 2010 will not appear in the Commencement Program or newspaper. April 1, 2010 is the deadline for ordering caps and gowns and for indicating intent to participate in Spring Commencement. The deadline for filing an Application for Graduation for spring graduates is May 13, 2010. The deadline is August 23, 2010 for summer graduates.

Late Fee:
There is a $5.00 late fee for all students filing an Application for Graduation for Spring after April 1.

Commencement
Caps and Gowns:
Caps and Gowns are ordered when you file your Application for Graduation and indicate that you are participating in Commencement. Caps and gowns may be picked up at Enrollment Services/Admissions after May 10, 2010. The last day a cap and gown can be ordered is April 1, 2010.

Rehearsal:
Rehearsal for the Quad City Commencement is at noon on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at the i wireless Center. The East Campus Rehearsal is at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 21, 2010 at the Armory. Rehearsal lasts approximately two hours, and it is very important that you attend.

Commencement:
The Quad-Cities Commencement is Thursday, May 20, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the i wireless Center. The East Campus Commencement is Friday, May 21, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the Kewanee Armory.
Honors
Only students who are earning Associate Degrees qualify for honors. Since Spring grades are not due until Monday, May 24, 2010, students will be recognized at commencement with graduation honors based upon their GPA at the end of the fall semester and the number of semester hours enrolled for in through the spring semester. Official graduation honors noted on the degree and academic record will be determined when the degree requirements are completed.

Summa Cum Laude: Must complete sixty (60) hours of graded work at Black Hawk College with a cumulative 3.95 grade point average.

Magna Cum Laude: Must complete forty-five (45) hours of graded work at Black Hawk College with a cumulative 3.85 grade point average.

Cum Laude: Must complete thirty (30) hours of graded work at Black Hawk College with a cumulative 3.75 grade point average.
Honor Societies
Phi Theta Kappa: If you are a member of Phi Theta Kappa, you will be eligible to wear a PTK stole. You will receive more information about this through your PTK Chapter.

Psi Beta: If you are a member of Psi Beta, you will be eligible to wear a Psi Beta cord. You will receive more information about this through your Psi Beta Chapter.

Alpha Beta Gamma: If you are a member of Alpha Beta Gamma, you will be eligible to wear a Alpha Beta Gamma stole. You will receive more information about this through your Alpha Beta Gamma Chapter.

2009-2010 Calendar
December 11 Last day to file Application for Fall. All requirements must be completed to be considered a fall graduate
January 22 Diplomas mailed to fall graduates
April 1 Last day for spring and summer students to file an Application for Graduation IF they intend to attend Commencement. Last day to order caps and gowns. Names will not appear in Commencement program if Application is filed after this date.
April 1 Late application fee of $5.00 (for Spring applications only)
May 10 Caps and gowns available at the Enrollment Services/Admissions Offices
May 20 QC Commencement Rehearsal - Noon. Commencement Ceremony – 7 pm
May 21 EC Commencement rehearsal at 10 a.m. EC Commencement at 7 p.m.
May 13

Last day to file an Application for Spring graduation. All requirements must be completed to be considered a spring graduate
July 9
Diplomas mailed to spring graduates
August 23
Last day to file an Application for Summer Graduation. All requirements must be completed to be considered a summer graduate
September 10 Diplomas mailed to summer graduates
