English as a Second Language (ESL)
QualificationsFor residents of the College district who are non-English-speaking adults, 17 years of age or older. Sixteen year old students may enroll with parental and secondary school district permission.
Students develop English language skills to:
- Participate in American society
- Enter employment
- Advance in the workplace
- Enroll in a training program or the Academic ESL Program
- Be successful in the citizenship process

ESL Program Levels of InstructionLevels help non-English speaking students build and attain language skills using an integrated approach to learning. The skills of listening, speaking, grammar, reading and writing skills are taught, as well as general aspects of American culture and civics. New students are tested to ensure placement accuracy.

CostQualifying students attend classes without cost.
Class Locations
Classes may be held in a variety of locations including churches, industrial plants, schools, libraries, and housing projects. The major learning centers are located in East Moline, Rock Island, Moline, or Kewanee. Not all class levels are available at all locations.
