Foreign Language Requirements at Illinois Universities
Augustana College
Students must have completed four years of a single foreign language in high school, satisfactorily complete a foreign language competency test, or complete a course of 103 in a foreign language at Augustana. The equivalent course (one full year) from another college will also be accepted. A 101 and 102 course in any foreign language at BHC will satisfy this requirement.

ISU (Illinois State University)
Entering freshman or students entering without completing IAI General Education requirements must have completed two full years of a single foreign language in high school or two full years of fine arts courses. Fine arts courses need not be in the same discipline.

Students entering under the 1999 catalog forward, must complete the third semester of a single foreign language, FOR 115, to be eligible for the Bachelor of Arts degree.

Within most majors students have the option to complete the Bachelor of Arts or the Bachelor of Science degree. The Bachelor of Science does not require the completion of a foreign language course.

Students may choose two years of a foreign language to satisfy the humanities requirement. Foreign language is not required for admission or graduation provided the student has met entrance requirements and opts to complete the Bachelor of Science degree.

Saint Ambrose University
Students who enter fall 2003 or later will be required to complete three full years of a single foreign language in high school or three semesters of a single foreign language at the college level. This is a general education requirement and applies to all majors.

SIUC (Southern Illinois University Carbondale)
There is no foreign language requirement for admission or graduation or the Bachelor of Arts or Associate degree. Students may choose to apply 2 units of foreign language towards electives requirement. Only International Business and Foreign Language majors have a foreign language requirement.

WIU (Western Illinois University)
