The following special opportunities are available for students studying in the intermediate and advanced levels:

• opportunity to take academic classes while in advanced ESLwith the approval of the ESL Coordinator
• 3 transferable credits for COMM 100 and COMM 105
• field trips to local institutions as an extension of classwork
• six-week summer program

TOEFL Preparation
Any student who wishes to take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) exam will find a wide variety of TOEFL practice materials (paper and CD-ROM) in the ESL Program library. Students may participate in TOEFL practice sessions which analyze each part of the test and discuss strategies for each test section. Students will be given the opportunity to take and review practice exams. Black Hawk College is located about 20 minutes from the Sylvan Learning Center, a TOEFL test site.
