Anyone who attends BHC and is currently enrolled in at least 12 credit hours can be eligible to participate on the Crops & Soils Judging Team. Designation of a specific major or degree plan is not required. The collegiate judging season runs from August to May. Members of the team start judging their freshmen year, fall semester.

Colleges competed against include, but are not limited to: Lakeland Community College, Joliet Junior College, Illinois State University, Murray State, Eastern Oklahoma State, Hutchinson Community College, Cloud County Community College, Southeast Community College, U-River Falls, UW-Platteville, Western Kentucky, University of Minnesota-Crookston, South Dakota State University, Northeast Community College, and Fort Hays State University.
Time Away from Campus During the spring semester, students miss about 3 to 4 days in order to attend NACTA.
Travel Expense Black Hawk College will cover most of the expenses of traveling. Students will be responsible for paying for their meals. An estimated cost per day for spending money and food is about $20.
