Resources
One of the things that dual enrollment students often discover is that compared to high school classes, college classes are more challenging, require less class time, but more reading and work outside of class, and depend upon the application of strong study skills to complete assignments. This page provides you with some tips and useful information on topics that can contribute to your success when taking dual enrollment (college) classes.

Advising
Academic advising for course selection, choosing a major, transferring credits or job placement is available on a walk-in basis or by appointment in the Advising Center.

Tutoring & Study Skills
Walk-in or by appointment tutoring services are available in the Student Success Center. Assistance with general study skills: how to study for tests, time management, note taking, etc. is also available at the center. Need help with reading, writing or mathematics?

Career Planning

Using the Library
  • Library Tutorial: If you are just getting started using online library services or could use some help improving your library searching skills for research papers and other assignments, Black Hawk College’s SearchPath online library tutorial is a great place to start! Additional tutorials for several specific online search engines and tools are also available from the BHC Library’s “Research Assistance” Web page.
  • Library catalogs, full-text articles, search tools: Library services are available through the QC Library and East Campus LRC Web sites.
  • Interlibrary loan: When getting to the Black Hawk College libraries is inconvenient and your local library does not have what you need, you may request books and articles through Interlibrary Loan from your local school or public library.
  • If you need additional information about library services, call the Black Hawk College Librarian, Charlet Key (309-796-5143 or 800-334-1311, ext. 5143) or the East Campus Librarian, Beth Duttlinger (309-852-5671 or 800-233-5671 ext. 6273.)
