Dual Enrollment
Thinking About Taking a Dual Enrollment Class?
Dual Enrollment at Black Hawk College gives a high school junior or senior a jump-start on a college education by providing the opportunity to earn college credit while simultaneously working toward a high school diploma. Many high schools offer dual enrollment classes in the high school building for groups of high school students interested in the same college credit class. Other high school students enroll in classes on campus where they are integrated with other college students from around the college district.

Are Dual Enrollment Classes Right for You?
Students interested in Dual Enrollment need to be highly motivated and dedicated to learning. The Dual Enrollment program is an opportunity for you to take courses at the college level, but the amount of work necessary to succeed is usually much greater than in high school classes. Dual Enrollment courses become part of a permanent college transcript. Therefore, performance in these courses is critical to future college plans and grade point averages.

Additionally, tuition, fees and books are usually paid for by you and your family. Tuition and fee refunds for withdrawing from class must be made according to the refund and withdrawal schedule established by Black Hawk College.

What Are the Benefits?
  • Dual Enrollment provides an opportunity for you to get an advanced start toward earning a college certificate or degree.
  • It often saves you and your parents money.
  • It can provide you with college credit that is transferable to other colleges and universities.
  • It provides a wider range of course options for you when you are ready for more advanced study.
  • It promotes challenging educational opportunities while you are still in high school and encourages lifelong learning.

Dual Enrollment, Dual Credit...What's the Difference?
In Dual Enrollment, you enroll in a course through Black Hawk College and receive college credit for it while you are still in high school.

Dual Credit means that you receive both high school and college credit for the course taken through Black Hawk College. The awarding of dual credit is an option determined by your high school.
