| Sophomore right handed pitcher, Matt Swynenberg (Davenport North HS) was selected by the Washington Nationals in the 28th round of the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft. Swynenberg was the ace of the Black Hawk pitching staff and finished with a 7-2 record and a 3.02 ERA. In 53 innings, Matt struck out 66 batters while allowing the opposition to only hit .225 against him. Swynenberg was a 2009 All-Arrowhead Athletic Conference selection and earned NJCAA 2nd Team All-Region honors. He has signed a professional contract with the Nationals and has reported to Viera, Florida to begin his career. |
