1. Apply for Admission
Complete the Application for Admission form (there is NO application fee to apply). Applications are also available by mail, or by visiting Black Hawk College.
High School Transcripts: High school graduates should request an official copy of their high school transcript be sent to the Enrollment Services Office at Black Hawk College.
GED Transcripts: GED graduates should request an official GED transcript be sent to the Enrollment Services Office at Black Hawk College. Requests for official transcripts should be made to the Regional Office of Education.
College Credit Transcripts: An official transcript must be sent to the Enrollment Services Office at Black Hawk College from all colleges previously attended if the student intends to use prior coursework toward transfer credit.
2. Check-out Financing options
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to apply for need-based financial aid including federal and state grants, loans or campus work-study opportunities. Complete the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov or by submitting a paper FAFSA worksheet available through the Financial Aid Office.

Complete the Black Hawk College Scholarship application. The Black Hawk College Scholarship application form is available through the Financial Aid Office. Deadline for filing this form is May 15th of each calendar year. Complete any other scholarship applications that provide financial assistance through a variety of local and non-local agencies, organizations or professional groups.
Deadlines will vary.
3. Take a Placement Test
All students enrolling in six or more college credit hours (two courses or more) must complete the COMPASS placement test. Some courses require specific test scores prior to class enrollment and all students must meet the prerequisites for these courses either through COMPASS testing or previous college coursework. For more information on the COMPASS testing policies please contact an Academic Advisor.

4. Orientation
All new students, prospective students and parents are encouraged to come to the Quad Cities campus and attend Black Hawk College’s Smart Start New Student Orientation sessions. Orientation topics
include: class scheduling, registration procedures, myBlackHawk user information, campus resources, and a panel discussion with faculty, Student Services staff and other Black Hawk College students. These sessions are scheduled to be approximately 2 hours long and include a campus tour. OR
Visit our online orientation to find a “Roadmap to Success” at Black Hawk College. This journey will take between 30-45 minutes, but will be well worth your time! OR Attend a “Mini-orientation” – visit the Quad-Cities campus every Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday at 10 a.m. or 2 p.m. for a campus tour and introduction to our Student Services. Plan to spend 1-1.5 hours with your tour guide. Call (309) 796-5100 for more information.
5. See an Advisor Meet with an Academic Advisor to develop your individual educational plan based on your specific educational and career goals. Also meet with the Disability Services advisor if you have a documented disability.
Students may make an appointment to meet with an advisor by contacting the Quad-Cities Advising Center at (309) 796-5100 () or the East Campus Advising Center at (309) 854-1709 (). For convenience, walk-in appointments are also available by visiting the Advising Centers during college business hours.
6. Register and Pay for Classes
Enroll in your classes through your myBlackHawk student account. Assistance is available through the advising center at both campuses.
To complete the registration process, students must pay for all classes prior to the payment due date. Refer to the semester schedule of classes for payment due dates. Cash, check, money order, VISA, Mastercard, Discover and American Express are all acceptable payment options. Payments can be made online through myBlackHawk or by visiting the Enrollment Services/Bursar’s Offices. A payment plan is also available.
