Opticianry is a large and growing ophthalmic specialty. This practical, hands-on course provides entry level working knowledge of optics and office procedures. This class will offer a solid foundation of “need to know” information to get you trained and prepared for an entry level position.

Optical Training: Skills and Procedures Short-Term Training Certificate Program

Requirements:
•  18 years of age, high school graduate or G.E.D. diploma.
•  Enjoy working with people and your hands, and ability to offer excellent customer service.
•  You will be required to visit the Career Services Center and create a resume.

Learn basic knowledge in ophthalmic optics in this 45-hour course which includes aspects of spectacle lenses, frames, definitions, adjustments, dispensing of eyewear, understanding a spectacle prescription, and troubleshooting common optical problems. You will learn how to dispense contact lenses, proper insertion and removal techniques. Learn how to open and close a sale, front office procedures, customer service and telephone etiquette.

• Bifocals, trifocals and progressives
• Types of frames
• Dispensing and adjusting
• Common ophthalmic distortions
• Lensometers and lens clocks
• Spectacle and Contact Lens prescriptions
• Ophthalmic equations and formulas
• Office Procedures & Customer Service Skills
• Hands-on practical experience

Next Class: Sept. 9 - Dec. 2  (No class Oct. 12, Nov. 11, Nov.25)
Days: Mondays/Wednesdays
