BHE Ag Alumni –
I would first like to start off by introducing myself as your new Agri-Business Club Alumni (ABCA) President and would like to thank you for this opportunity to lead such an important organization for BHE! Much like many of you, I have deep roots within our agriculture industry. From growing up on a crop and livestock farm, attending BHE, transferring to University of Illinois to study veterinary medicine and buying a mixed animal veterinary practice in my hometown of Galva, IL, it is evident to me that agriculture really is the backbone of our country. It is also clear to me that the education that BHE provides is extraordinary, unique and far-reaching.
Exciting things are always happening at BHE but I would just like to highlight a couple. BHE is in the process of building a state-of-the-art veterinary technician program that will feature a large animal technician certificate, one of only a handful of tech colleges offering this specialization. The ABCA is proud to support this new curriculum and recently donated $10,000 in order to supply the program with microscopes. The other big news to share is that our current agricultural students just came back with the Sweepstakes Award for NACTA 2016 from Crookston, MN! This huge success could not have come at a better time for the BHE campus as it reiterates the overwhelming success that our current and past students achieve thanks to the strong foundation the instructors build at BHE.
We all know that BHE would not be the same without support from ABCA members, such as yourself. This past January, our annual banquet raised approximately $10,000 to help with current programs, student outreach activities, campus improvements, and equipment upgrades. THANK YOU to all who donated, attended, and purchased items during the raffle and auction! I would like to personally invite you to the next annual banquet on January 28, 2017, at the Kewanee Dunes. Invitations will be hitting your mailboxes in late December. If you do not get, or have not gotten, an invitation please contact myself or Jon Wolf, our executive secretary. You may also submit a “change of address form” that is located on the left hand column of this webpage. If January weather is not your “thing” we would love to have you join us for our 2nd annual golf outing to be held on July 16, 2016, at the Kewanee Dunes. Please contact me for more information on this event.
As always, the ABCA always has an open door and would love to hear from you. Please do not hesitate to send ideas, thoughts, and questions our way. We look forward to seeing you throughout the year!
Kimberly Stevens, ABCA President
