Dear Ag Alumni,
It is hard to believe that it has been a year already since I was elected to be the ABCA President. Your ABCA Board of Directors and I have been striving to get the word out that we are here for our Alumni to be able to stay up to date with Black Hawk East College Agriculture’s events and accomplishments throughout the year. We are doing this by keeping this website current and also we now have a Face book page for you to comment on or just to stay current. Please like the page to get our numbers up.
We just held our 40th annual banquet on Jan 26th at the Kewanee Dunes. This was a week earlier than it has been for the last 39 years. We had a few people go on the campus tour that started a 1 p.m. It was very interesting to see how much the campus has changed over the years and to hear about the coming additions. The college is in the process of adding a new science lab building, which is to be completed by next fall. They are also looking to expand the welding class facilities to accommodate a larger enrollment.
The Banquet was successful and we really liked the facilities at the Kewanee Dunes. We raised over $3,000 dollars to go toward faculty grant requests for the Ag Programs. This includes Horticulture, Livestock, Equine, Production, Ag Transfer, Business, the judging and show teams. Next year’s Banquet will be January 25, 2014 at the Kewanee Dunes.
I want to remind you again that we are now affiliated with the Black Hawk College East Foundation and are now recognized as a 501 (C) (3) not for profit organization. This has been a win-win for the ABCA and the Foundation. Any donations can be made to the BHC East Foundation and specifying it for the Agri-Business Club Alumni.
If you have any suggestions or ideas to help improve our organization, web site, or face book page please feel free to contact me or one of the Board members. Also if you or any Ag Alumni that you know of that would be interested in becoming or contributing to the leadership of your Agri-Business Club Alumni, contact me or one of the Board of Directors.
We at Black Hawk East have one o,f if not the top, Community College Agriculture Programs in the nation and we should take pride in that and give back so that others may be able have a successful career in Agriculture. After all they are our future.
