The purpose of the International Student Association (ISA) is twofold: to foster interaction and friendship among international students, and to benefit the Black Hawk College and Quad Cities communities through cultural education and fundraising efforts.
The ISA is one of many student organizations on campus. ISA schedule meetings each semester to allow students to enjoy each other’s company and to plan fundraising projects and social events. Such events include: The International Festival which takes place every spring and draws more than a thousand visitors from the surrounding community to the Quad Cities campus for a day of international food, entertainment, and education; trips to a haunted house in the fall (around Halloween time) and to hockey and other sports events; a “Welcome Back to School” picnic in late August; a trip to Chicago and more. Fundraising undertaken by the ISA benefits local students studying ESL through scholarships and international students from abroad through an emergency fund. The ISA also undertakes projects to benefit the larger community in the Quad Cities. Members of the ISA visit local schools to make cultural presentations to the children of this area.
Membership in the ISA is free and open to all, including American students, staff and faculty of the College.
