Steps to complete the 2012-13 Federal Direct Loan Process
1. Complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov. Black Hawk College must have all required documents to complete your file.
2. Register for at least six credit hours.
3. First time borrowers must go to http://studentloans.gov and complete both:
- Electronic Master Promissory Note (MPN)
- Entrance Counseling
You will need your Department of Education issued PIN to begin the process.
4. Read Direct loan guidelines.
5. Students must complete a Budget Sheet.
6. Complete the Black Hawk College Federal Direct Loan Application online.
The processing time is two weeks after you have completed steps one through six. Access your myBlackHawk account to check your loan. Correspondence about your loan will be sent through your Black Hawk College student e-mail account.
