At the Open House, new and prospective students can take the COMPASS placement test, register for classes, meet faculty members and learn about BHC programs and student support resources.
Activities will include:
Representatives from Advising, Financial Aid, Career Services and academic programs will be available to answer questions and get you started (or finished!) on the enrollment process.
Noche de Ciencias “Science Night”

Black Hawk College is hosting Noche de Ciencias “Science Night” in partnership with the John Deere Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers Foundation. The event will be at the Quad-Cities Campus.
Science Night is a national program to promote knowledge and interested in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
This event is open to students aged 10-15 and includes
– Fun, hands-on STEM activities.
– Useful college information for parents & students.
– Free food & prizes.

In one evening, students can visit with representatives from more than 80 colleges and universities. High school students, college students, parents and grandparents can get information on:
- Admission requirements
- How to apply
- Tuition costs
- Financial aid
- Housing options
- Transfer options
Admission is free.
If you’re thinking about college but don’t know where to start, FYI Night is for you. Learn about college vocabulary, paying for college, registering for classes, and career options.

Adult Information Sessions are for adults who want to learn more about becoming a BHC student.

Enjoy free food, kids activities and get registered for fall classes!
The enrollment process includes:
- Filling out an online application.
- Completing financial aid forms.
- Taking the COMPASS placement test – 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Reservations are requested.
- Doing the online orientation.
- Attending a New Student Advising and Registration Session (NewSTARS) – 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Reservations are requested.
- Registering for classes.
Discovery Day also will have an information fair highlighting student services, clubs and organizations, and other BHC programs such as Professional and Continuing Education.
Career Services Center staff will be on hand to help with résumé writing, job searches, interest inventories and career goal planning.
Parent Night (Quad-Cities Campus)
Parents of high school students are invited to attend a special night with BHC faculty, staff and students to learn about the college enrollment process and how to best support your student during the transition from high school to college. The event will be in Building 4, second floor, Hawk’s Nest.
