You do not have to be a computer expert to be an online student, but the more you know about the basics, the easier it will be. If you suspect that your computer skills might be lacking, see the Computer Skills section of Module 1 in this Orientation. Other tech tips for online students include:
- Review Module III of this Orientation for tutorials on using various tools in Canvas, the Course Management System used by most BHC online courses. Additional tutorials on Canvas and myBlackHawk are linked from the Online Tech Support area of the BHC Web site as well.
- Get online as soon as your course is active and give yourself a tour of the course site. Knowing where things are will save you time and frustration later, and will give you practice in using the software tools needed for the course.
- Find a friend, neighbor or colleague who knows more about computers than you do. He/she will likely come in handy at some point during the semester! You may want to bookmark the Online Tech Support Center on the BHC Web site too, so you can troubleshoot yourself when technical issues surface.
