What software and equipment will I need to take an online course?
In general, you will need access to a computer, an Internet connection, a Web browser (software), and word processing software. For a detailed description of computer and software requirements for taking an online course at Black Hawk College, consult our Online Tech Support pages. Your instructor may also have you complete a checkup to make sure your computer is compatible with the course management system your class uses. If the Online Tech Support page does not address your particular situation, send us your question.
It is always a good idea to have a backup plan in case of equipment failure. Most libraries have Internet access, for example, or you may have a neighbor or friend you can call on in the event of technical problems that prevent you from accessing your course or turning in assignments. The Black Hawk College computer labs are also available during open lab hours. Having this planned ahead of time can lots of stress later!
