Your financial support is vital to continue the growth, expansion and development of Black Hawk College East Campus. Each year, the college benefits from the generosity of individuals and organizations. These donors share the desire to make a positive impact in a student’s life, the college and to the community. Whether you choose to support BHC East Campus with an annual gift, through a planned gift or by setting up a scholarship, you always have the option to designate your gift to a particular program that is important to you, or it can be unrestricted, to be used where the college has the greatest need.
Annual Support
Although Black Hawk College receives state and local funds to assist with operating, private donation support is vital in providing excellence in education. Your annual gift allows Black Hawk College – East Foundation to support a variety of special programs including:
- Student Scholarships
- Faculty & Staff Mini-Grants
- Up-to-Date Equipment
To make a contribution, mail your gift with the East Foundation Contribution Form to the Black Hawk College – East Foundation – 26230 Black Hawk Road, Galva, IL 61434.
Memorial Gifts
If an obituary directs contributions to the charity of your choice, consider making a difference through the college. You can:
- Write a check payable to Black Hawk College – East Foundation.
- Let us know whom you wish to memorialize.
When we receive a check, we will send a thank you letter with tax deduction information and notify the family that a gift was made by you in memory of the deceased.
Scholarships
If you’re interested in establishing a scholarship, there are two types of scholarships to consider:
Endowed Scholarships
A lasting tribute in honor of or in memory of loved ones. For organizations it’s an opportunity to provide perpetual support for BHC East Campus students. When an individual or organization establishes an endowed scholarship, the gift is set aside as the principal is invested in perpetuity. Only the income from the principal is distributed as a scholarship award. An endowed scholarship typically consists of a minimum first-time gift of $10,000. The larger the principal, the greater the number of scholarships the foundation can award.
Annual Scholarship
Established as a short-term, renewable gift. When a donor establishes an annual scholarship, the entire gift is awarded to students. (We request that annual scholarships be $500 or more per academic year).
Endowment
As with an endowed scholarship, supporting the general endowment fund provides perpetual support for the college’s needs. Whether to support a specific capital need, provide the start for a new program or lend security during economic down times, it’s vital that the endowment fund continues to grow. There are many ways to support the endowment, with a restricted or unrestricted gift.
- Cash, preferable through a check made payable to the Black Hawk College – East Foundation. Multi-year pledges are always welcome.
- Stocks, an increasingly popular way to give.
- Personal property, real estate, gifts in kind, and/or equipment are counted at their fair market value.
- Corporate matching gifts can double or triple the value of your gift.
- Deferred gifts, including bequests, life insurance policies, life income gifts, and trusts administered by others.
- Memorials or honorariums.
