Black Hawk College, in partnership with the Rock Island Arsenal, is hosting a Machinist Apprentice Program Informational Workshop from
5-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 8.The free event will be in the Hawk’s Nest located on the second floor of Building 4 at the Quad-Cities Campus, 6600 34th Ave., Moline. Anyone interested in applying for an apprenticeship is encouraged to attend.
Trained machinists are in demand in both the public and private sectors, and experienced journeypersons can earn more than $60,000 per year.
Potential applicants are invited to come and learn more about the four-year Machinist Apprentice Program and what assistance and training is available to them through Black Hawk College.
The college will offer the following services at the workshop –
- COMPASS math test – This test helps determine the math level of the candidates. Applicants are required to take a math test before being admitted to the program and COMPASS can help them determine if they will need to prepare more for the exam.
- Plato online tutoring program – Interested candidates will be able to access Plato from home or any other computer to help them prepare for the test.
- Resume assistance – Representatives from the BHC Career Services Center will help candidates prepare to apply for a job.
