The Quad-Cities Campus hosted a dozen Chinese high school students Thursday, July 17 as part of the Rivers as Bridges 2014 program.
The students are in the Midwest for a two-week visit, touring and studying the Mississippi River region in Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin.
Rivers as Bridges connects people – especially youth – from the Mississippi and Yangtze river regions through shared experiences and achievements in culture, conservation and commerce.
During their Black Hawk College stop, the students waded into the stream on campus to catch and identify aquatic macroinvertebrates (stream bugs) under the guidance of Illinois RiverWatch coordinator Matthew Young.
