BHC softball, baseball teams win Arrowhead Conference titles

BravesCongratulations to the Quad-Cities Campus women’s softball team and men’s baseball team for both becoming Arrowhead Conference champions!

The Division II softball team – coached by Carrie Calderon – won its 16th Arrowhead Conference title Saturday, April 26. As of April 29, the team is ranked 15th in the nation with a 25-11 record.

The softball team will compete May 2-3 with three others teams in the NJCAA Region IV tournament in Freeport, Ill. The tournament winner will move on to the NJCAA Division II Softball National Championship tourney May 14-17 in Clinton, Miss.

Calderon has coached BHC’s softball team since Spring 1994. On April 19, she reached a coaching milestone, notching her 700th win. She has a 705-256 overall record at Black Hawk College, and all 16 conference titles have been won during her tenure plus eight NJCAA Region IV championships. Calderon has won eight Region IV Coach of the Year awards and 16 Arrowhead Conference Coach of the Year awards.

The Division II baseball team – coached by Arnie Chavera – won its 24th Arrowhead Conference title Saturday, April 26. The team heads to the Region IV tournament May 10-11 (location TBD). As of April 29, the team has a 22-16 record.

Chavera has coached BHC’s baseball teams since Fall 2004, guiding his teams to eight Arrowhead Conference championships and five NJCAA Region IV championships and earning seven Arrowhead Conference Coach of the Year awards.
