Creations with Clay

Instructor: D. McMullen

Explore your creativity with clay. This class is for the beginner who wants to learn to create projects with clay. You will be introduced to the basics of working on the Potter’s wheel and create hand built projects using stoneware clay. Color slips are available, and projects will be finished using a glaze. A $20 materials fee is payable to the instructor the first night of class.

Stained Glass – Beginning, Copper Foil                                     

Instructor: J. Rocker

Learn to make real stained glass projects using the same copper foil technique that Tiffany used to create his legendary lampshades. You will be guided through the process of cutting glass pieces and assembling them using copper foil. Needed tools, which may cost up to $200, will be discussed at the first class; as well as sources for supplies.  Some materials may contain lead, so women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should refrain from using these materials. Attendance is required at first 2 classes. A $5 materials fee is payable to the instructor the first night of class.

Stained Glass – Intermediate, Lead                                               

Instructor: J. Rocker

Prerequisite: Stained Glass – Beginning, Copper Foil or equivalent.

Continue using skills learned in beginning stained glass to create beautiful pieces using the lead technique. Some materials may contain lead, so women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should refrain from using these materials.

Fused Glass Jewelry Making

Instructor: L. Steffen

This class will teach you the basics of glass fusing. You will be making jewelry from layers of glass that include working with beautiful dichroic glass. You will also learn finishing techniques after the first firing and finishing pieces off with bails to use as pendants. Color combinations and mosaic techniques will also be included. Please bring a notebook to class. All tools and equipment will be provided. A $50 materials fee is payable to the instructor the first night of class.

Advanced Glass Fusing

Prerequisite: Fused Glass Jewelry Making

Take your fusing skills to the next level. Learn new ways to use glass for larger projects. Topics include: using frit, decals, painting on glass, making part sheets and puddle glass, using molds and slumping to shape. Tools and some materials provided. Bring your imagination! A $100 materials fee is payable to the instructor the first night of class.

Earring Extravaganza

Instructor: M. Andich

Need just the right pair of earrings to complete your look? Make them yourself! Learn the basics of beading in this two-week beginner level class. Create fun earrings and charms for yourself or a gift. You will need jewelry-making round-nosed pliers, chain nose pliers and diagonal cutters. (A tool kit can be purchased from instructor for $15 on the first night of class.) A $5 materials fee is payable to the instructor the first night of class. Additional materials may be purchased if desired.

Beginning Knitting

Instructor: C. Krueger

“Click” your way to knitting those projects that can make wonderful gifts. Class will include knit and purl, cast on, bind off, increase and decrease, stitch construction and correcting mistakes. Become familiar with reading knitting patterns. Choose to knit a small towel or scarf, wrist warmer or sampler. Bring to class: two skeins (any color), worsted weight yarn, one set U.S. size 9, 10 or 11 needles plus one yarn needle.

Intermediate Knitting – Hats

Learn to knit hats on circular needles. We’ll be knitting, purling, reducing and more to make beautiful and functional hats. Learn to read a pattern and design your own! Bring to class: two skeins (any color), worsted weight yarn, two sets of circular needles (size 8) plus one yarn needle. Optional supplies: cable needles, scissors, patterns to try.

Beginning Crocheting

Instructor: C. Bright-Haronik

Crocheting is fast, fun and increasingly popular. In this three-evening class, learn the basic stitches and make a pretty dishcloth. Learn chain stitch, single crochet, half-double crochet, double crochet and triple crochet, plus the basics of pattern reading. Please bring to class a 2.5-ounce skein of 100% cotton yarn (such as Peaches and Cream) in any color, a size H or I crochet hook, a blunt darning needle and sharp scissors. Patterns will be provided as part of the class.

Intermediate Crocheting

Take your beginning crocheting skills to the next level. Learn how to make granny squares in this one-night workshop, opening the door to numerous new projects to complete through your new hobby. Prerequisite: completion of the Beginning Crocheting class or mastery of the chain stitch, single and double crochet stitches. Please bring to class one skein of any medium weight (4) yarn and an I or J crochet hook.

Advanced Crocheting

Continue your mastery of crocheting and prepare for cooler weather at the same time! In this two-week course, you will receive instruction and guidance on completing your very own afghan. Please bring to class a size J crochet hook and two skeins each of five different (coordinating) colors of Vanna yarn.

Oil Painting Made Easy

Instructor: C. Fiedler

Learn easy techniques using a wet-on-wet canvas and oil paints. Reproduce landscape and floral pictures with a splash of your own creativity. You will create a piece of art at the end of each session. Purchase the Bill Alexander or Bob Ross oil painting kit, and (6) 16″ X 20″ canvases. Wear old clothing to class and bring odorless paint thinner and paper towels.

Watercolor Painting Fall Colors  (Lifelong Learner)

Explore mixing earth tones to create intense vibrant colors for your impact area and muting the same mix to make value changes for depth in your landscapes. Bring a tablet of 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper, a #2 school pencil, a kneaded eraser and a #8 round watercolor paintbrush. List of nine basic colors of paints will be given at the first class.

This class will be helpful for both beginning and advanced students. We will be painting the 10 rules for showing reflections in water. These paintings will be not much more than thumbnail studies. Drawing Your Pet in Colored Pencil  (Lifelong Learner)

By the use of a grid, you can draw a good likeness of your pet. Then it will be only a matter of seeing values and colors and what to do with the background. Bring a photo(s) no larger than 8″ x 10″ of your pet, a #2 school pencil, an eraser and a sketchbook to the first class. A list of colored pencils will be given at that time.

Graphite Drawing of Barns  (Lifelong Learner)

The old weathered barns are always popular and a good subject for drawings and paintings. You will work from up-close photos of barns to help see those subtle changes in values which create the old wood textures. Bring to first class HB, 2B and 4B pencils, an eraser and a drawing paper/sketch book (about 9″ x 12″).

Anyone Can Learn to Draw, Part 1  (Lifelong Learner)

Learn to move away from flat on the surface sketches to three-dimensional into the surface sketches. There are seven basic rules to follow. Bring to the first class a sketchpad (about 9″ x 12″), 2B and 4B drawing pencils, and an eraser.

Light through crystal and glass can be so beautiful, and nothing brings out that beauty as well as transparent watercolor. Photos for reference, step-by-step instruction sheets and the instructor’s demonstrations all should show you how to observe and paint light, establish values, mingle saturated colors, glazing and more. Bring a tablet of 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper, a #2 school pencil, a kneaded eraser and a #8 round watercolor paintbrush. List of nine basic colors of paints will be given at the first class.

Watercolor Pencil  (Lifelong Learner)

You may have tried watercolor or colored pencils, and now you are curious as to how watercolor pencils compare. Watercolor pencils allow you both the fluidity of watercolor and the control of colored pencil, plus they are easy to transport. This class will work through step-by-step lessons to learn a wide range of techniques using only a beginning set of 12 watercolor pencils. Bring a small tablet of Bristol Board paper, a #2 school pencil and a #6 round watercolor paint brush. If you have watercolor pencils, bring them along to the first class.

Basic Floral Design

Learn to design and arrange flowers and become your own floral designer or prepare for entry level floral designing. You will experience hands-on-training while learning the basics of floral design to include flower choices, different arrangements and tools needed for the profession. Advanced Floral Design

Class emphasis is on applying the elements and principles learned in the Basic Floral Design class. Included will be high styled designs for a wedding or any special event, bridal work including bride’s bouquet, boutonnieres and corsages.
